قالت وزارة الدفاع الإماراتية، السبت، إن شراء الإمارات 80 طائرة فرنسية مقاتلة من طراز رافال، هدفه أن تحل محل أسطول الميراج في سرب القوات الجوية الإماراتية، مع التدريب والصيانة.
وحسب بيان لوزارة الدفاع الإماراتية، نقلته وكالة الأنباء الإماراتية، قال قائد القوات الجوية والدفاع الجوي، اللواء الركن طيار إبراهيم ناصر العلوي، “إن دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة كانت تبحث منذ فترة في الأسواق العالمية عن بديل لطائرات الميراج الموجودة حاليًا في الخدمة”.
وأشار إلى أنه “كنا قد أجرينا محادثات مع الشركات الفرنسية لبعض الوقت ويسعدنا الإعلان عن توقيع هذه الاتفاقية”.
وأضاف: “سنواصل تطوير قدرات سلاحنا الجوي وأنظمة دفاعنا الجوية والبحث عن منتجات وتقنيات جديدة كجزء من استراتيجيتنا للأمن الوطني”.
وأكد قائد القوات الجوية “أن هذه الصفقة لا تعتبر خطة بديلة لصفقة F-35 المرتقبة، ولكنها بالأحرى صفقة مكملة ضمن الاستراتيجية الشاملة والمراجعة المستمرة التي نقوم بها لتطوير قدرات القوات الجوية الإماراتية بشكل يخدم مصالحنا الوطنية”.
